CBC Docs::HIROSHIMA:This Sunday

(Sunday August 5 at 10pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld)

It was the defining moment of the 20th Century – the scientific, technological, military, and political gamble of the world’s first atomic attack. This drama-documentary attempts to do what no other film has done before – to show what it is like to live through a nuclear explosion, millisecond by millisecond.

Set in the three weeks from the first test explosion in New Mexico to the eventual dropping of the bomb, the action takes viewers into the room where the crucial political decisions are made; on board the Enola Gay on her fateful voyage; inside the bomb as it explodes; and on the streets of Hiroshima when disaster strikes.

(Sunday August 12 at 10pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld)

John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963 was the murder of the century and a defining moment in U.S. history. Over the last 40 years, numerous theories have emerged surrounding JFK’s death and his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. Following three years of research, filmmaker Wilfried Huismann presents a new scenario based on compelling information that point to Oswald as a weapon-for-hire in the deadly duel between John F. Kennedy and Fidel Castro.

To HELL with Hiroshima! After what their government, and specifically their military had done all over the CBI and Pacific, they’re lucky that we didn’t have MORE bombs to drop on them! Liberals weep for a couple of hundred thousand casualties between Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but not so much as a tear is shed for the TENS OF MILLIONS of innocent civilians that they TORTURED, ENSLAVED, and SLAUGHTERED, without mercy, over the previous 8 years

  2. Stephen says:

    1) I am pretty sure if you were a Hiroshima survivor, your take would be different

    2) Japan offered to surrender before the bombing on the condition they keep their emperor.

More bombs!!?? Shit, that is cold.

  3. str8shooter says:

I’m reasonably sure that if you weren’t such a panty waisted mammas boy, and had even bothered to do something that resembles basic research, YOU’D know that dropping the bombs was the only way to end the war with a minimum of casualties. Where are your tears, wailing and gnashing of teeth for the TENS OF MILLIONS of innocent civilians that they slaughtered? Grow a pair of balls before somebody mistakes you for a total pussy!

The Japanese were playing delaying tactics and had transmitted their refusal to comply fully with the terms of the Potsdam proclaimation in an effort to retain the Emperor. It’s real simple Stephen, when you’re getting your ass kicked up around your shoulder blades, you don’t dick around when you’re offered a chance to walk away with the rest of your teeth still intact.

More bombs, War is hell, and you reap the rewards of the seeds you sew. Japan attacked us in a most cowardly fashion and we turned around and shoved it right back up their ass.

  4. Stephen says:

Well, while your hurling insults at me, I’ll respond with this.

I guess General Eisenhower was a pussy too:

“In 1945 Secretary of War Stimson, visiting my headquarters in Germany, informed me that our government was preparing to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. I was one of those who felt that there were a number of cogent reasons to question the wisdom of such an act. During his recitation of the relevant facts, I had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to him my grave misgivings, first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary, and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was, I thought, no longer mandatory as a measure to save American lives.”

  5. str8shooter says:

No, YOU’RE the pussy, General (and later President) Eisenhower was a POLITICIAN. I’m very familiar with Ikes impressions of the use of the bomb, as well as those of others including Admiral Lehey, but the fact of the matter is that it was discussed with all of the relevent Allied leaders, and the general concensus (with the few exceptions mentioned) was that it’s use would be necessary to bring the War to a CONCLUSIVE end.

As I’ve said REPEATEDLY, you obviously don’t have the military training, or historical research under your belt to be involved in a serious discussion at this level, so the best thing you can do is DROP IT before I have to embarass you further.

BTW, when quoting a source, it’s customary to provide a link TO that source, even if it is just Wiki.

  6. Stephen says:

So I’m a pussy for opposing the bombing of Hiroshima, but Ike isn’t even though he held the same position? Do you want to try that again. And in 1945, he was not a politician.

I’m done with you. The notion that anyone needs to have military training to participate in a debate on the bombing of Hiroshima or anything else is complete fucking bullshit. I know how to read, I know how to do research, I know how to reason. I have my biases, but as we’ve already established, so do you.

In the comments I’ve seen you make on Annamarie’s blog, you have been wrong so many times I’ve lost count. I could respond every time you tick me off, but why? I can’t be bothered. I’ve nothing to prove to you. You can hurl every insult under the sun to me. It means nothing to me.

I have no problem engaging in respectful dialogue with conservatives. In fact, I come from a conservative family, and was one myself back in the day. You, sir, however, are not a mere conservative. You are a bully. You throw unprovoked insults at those with which you disagree. You attempt to stifle debate by using the “you’re not military” card. You take extreme positions, such as bombing even more sites in Japan, and leaving the poor completely to their own devices, that even most conservatives would find distasteful.

I have tried to be respectful, but it hasn’t worked. It is not my style to get down and dirty.

  7. str8shooter says:

You really DON’T know anything about the military do you? You don’t get to be a General Officer without being at least a bit of a politician, and Ike was KNOWN for being a consumate politician, how do you think he got appointed as CiC? He never saw any combat during his entire career, and spent the vast majority of his career in STAFF JOBS! You claim that you know how to read, do research and reason but I haven’t seen ANY evidence of it thus far. As for bias, my only bias is for the TRUTH, yours is to make some BS political statement without ANY consideration for historical context.

You claim that I’m wrong, but you can’t be bothered to point out when and where? Again, BS! You’re one of the ones making all kinds of BS claims without bothering to cite your sources or doing any basic research. You’re the one claiming that SecDef Rumsfeld somehow tried to hide one war game after action reports when it was written before he was even appointed! You’re nothing but a tinfoil hatted conspiracy freak!

As for using the “military card”, the only time I bring that out is when nutballs like you insist on talking about things you don’t know dick about and it’s obvious that they haven’t bothered to do even basic research. There have been a lot of people who have never served in the military that I respect, but they actually KNOW what they’re talking about, and even when we disagee, at least they can document the research they’ve done that led to the reasons for their positions.

Respect? One of the first aspects of respect is to NOT TRY TO BS PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY KNOW WTF THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT! You violated that rule straight away, and then insisted on trying to hide your ignorance with even more BS.

  8. str8shooter says:

Oh, and one other thing Stephen,

Where in all of your ‘compassion’, crying, wailing, and gnashing of teeth for the “victims” of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is your ‘compassion’, crying, wailing, and gnashing of teeth for the TENS OF MILLIONS of innocent civilians that the Japanese SLAUGHTERED WHOLESALE IN AT LEAST A HALF A DOZEN COUNTRIES?

You want respect? Here’s an idea, try being CONSISTANT in your ‘compassion’. You weep and wail for the ‘victims’ of the country that committed atrocities comparable with Stalin and Hitler, yet you not only haven’t said anything about THIER victims, but even after I’ve mentioned them repeatedly, you’ve been notoriously SILENT on the subject. There’s really only one way to describe that sort of intellectual dishonesty and duplicity in a way you’ll fully understand, and it describes you perfectly; SODDING HYPOCRITE! On second thought, BLOODY GIT also works, as does SPASTIC SHEEP SHAGGER.
