SUNDAY EVENING FORUM at Burlington Baptist Church
Holding the Bully’s Coat: Canada and the U.S. Empire
Award winning journalist and best-selling author, Linda McQuaig, will bring her trademark research, analysis, and passion on the important topic of how Canada’s role in the world is being transformed.
Linda McQuaig has developed a reputation for challenging the establishment. She has been a national reporter for the Globe and Mail, a senior writer for MacLean’s magazine, and is currently a political columnist for the Toronto Star. She is author of seven books on politics and economics – all national bestsellers – including Shooting the Hippo, The Cult of Impotence, All You Can Eat, and Its the Crude Dude: Big Oil and the Fight for the Planet. Her most recent book is Holding the Bully’s Coat: Canada and the U.S. Empire.
“As the United States has become a belligerent and lawless force under George W. Bush, the Canadian government has followed in close step…. This new role has been actively encouraged by powerful members of our elite who want to incorporate us more deeply into America’s military and economic empire. All this is at odds, however, with the sense Canadians have of themselves – as committed to the rule of law and to promoting equality and fairness, both at home and abroad.”
