THE LAST BIG PUSH – LEAFLET BLITZ

Calling all volunteers! Please do as much leafleting as possible this weekend, and during the commuting hours on Tuesday morning (7:30 to 9), Tuesday afternoon (4 to 6), and Wednesday morning (7:30 to 9:00) anywhere with heavy pedestrian traffic – whatever gets as many leaflets as possible in as many hands as possible.

This is a very teeny excerpt from a much larger report: “We ran an advertisement (Two Votes for a Better Democracy) in The West End Weekly which is delivered free to more than 8,000 farms and households in Rainy River, Emo, Manitou Rapids Reserve, Morson, Fort Frances and Couchiching Reserve. And a total of 718 copies of the one-pager Two Votes for a Better Democracy and 25 copies of Frequently Asked Questions About MMP were distributed in Dryden, mainly through leafletting vehicles.” – Stan Jolly

    Thanks, Stephen. I hope so too, although believe it or not, most people still haven’t got a clue what MMP is about. Can you believe it?? I personally gave out more than 1,000 MMP pamphlets during meetings, canvassing, etc. No wonder we don’t elect governments that are more representative of our views, since people are so apathetic! To make it even more difficult, the bar was set too high: MMP must pass with a 60% majority. So if it does pass, it will be a miracle…

    That sounds familiar. I think a 60% majority was also needed for STV in BC. And yes, such a system I think is the answer to a lot of our problems, especially around voting on principle without having to worry about giving a party you don’t like a majority. They have minority governments in some European countries all the time and it seems to work fine.
