    Socialist family values,

I’ve seen people go nuts in hospitals because they are ignored, then people tell you daycares are cool. Live your life with strangers because they will care about you more than your family would. These people should live with their children, course no good socialist wants that.

what’s with the nursing home thing? we’ve had problems (again) recently in b.c.. do they screen the workers? do they pay them next to nothing and expect them to do everything?

Nursing homes are grossly understaffed and underfunded. Workers are underpaid, so those with better qualifications don’t want to work there. To make matters worse, residents with severe mental problems are lumped together with those who are physically ill or infirm, or simply old. Not enough space in mental hospitals…. In my native country, we do not put our elderly relatives into institutions. We care for them at home and respect them for the wiseness of their age even if they are physically infirm. People here don’t want that responsibility. It is a more selfish, self-centred ‘me-first’ society. This is why my sick old uncle lives with me, and I also help my elderly mom live in relative comfort in her own house. With help from her grown kids, she can manage, at least for now…

dinosaur, this has nothing to do with ‘good socialists’. It has everything to do with being a ‘good human’. I know people who proclaim to be ‘rightwing’ and yet put their parents into cheap, sub-standard nursing homes. Go figure…

  4. I AM A CANADIAN CITIZEN SINCE 2005; I AM VERY HAPPY IN CANADA NOW BUT IT IS A PITTY I WONT BE AS HAPPY AS I AM IN THIS COUNTRY ONCE I GET OLD, BECAUSE IT IS A PUNISHMENT TO BE OLD IN CANADA.
I WORK IN A NURSING HOME AS A P.S.W. BECAUSE I LOVE WORKING FOR PEOPLE. NURSING HOMES SHOULD BE A PLACE WHERE AS CHILDRENS SHOULD HONOUR AND THANKS OUR PARENTS FOR EVERYTHING THEY HAVE DONE FOR US. HOW ? PROVIDING FOR THEM PEACE, CARING, LOVE, RESTING AND JOYFULL TIME WICH IS NOT TO LONG FOR THEM. BUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THAT THE INMORTAL AND FOREVER YOUNG FORMER CANADIAN ADMINISTRATION(TO WHOM IT CONCERN) DONT WANT TO HURT THE BUDGET INVESTING IN THE ELDERLY AND MENTALLY ILL(alzhaimer, or any other mental dissability). IN NURSING HOMES THE HEALTH CARE TEAM WANTS TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. PLEASE HELP US TO DO IT PROPERLY.( LOCKED UNITS FOR THE MENTALLY ILL RESIDENTS IN NURSING HOMES.)

Jairo, thank you for your comment and your hard work. I agree with you. I have a petition going around about minimum standards and decent funding in nursing homes. I only hope the governments pay attention to the inhuman treatment of our seniors in nursing homes. Like you, I shudder to think of what will happen to me when I get old. It is fast approaching….
